She has very little reason to stay in Maui, and every reason to come back to the safety net that is her family back in the Bay Area. The devastating fires of August 8th forced her from her home, burned down her place of work, and left her and her dog Benny with very little to go back to. Since then Sam has grown to love and be part of that very special community. Sam Powell is a young woman from my hometown, who two years ago courageously decided to move to the town of Lahaina, without knowing anyone, in order to pursue her dreams.
